Virtual Mitzvah Day
Virtual Mitzvah Day
TBT’s first ever VIRTUAL MITZVAH DAY will take place on Lag B’Omer, May 11-12.
Any time over the course of the 24-hour period, we are inviting you to take on a mitzvah project to perform. You may choose on e of the suggestions below or come up with your own project.
Our goal is for as many TBT members to engage in doing good works, putting love and help out into our community, in a collaborative way, while social distancing. Below are some project ideas.
For comments, questions or suggestions, please email us: Will Shields and Michele Gergans.
Projects include:
• Send an anonymous donation to someone you know is struggling financially
• Go through your books shelves, closets and make a donation to NFCC (North Fulton Community Charities)
• Make cards of cheerful messages of encouragement and drop them off at Cohen home
• Call the Red Cross and donate blood. Its needed now more than ever 1-800-733-2767
• Mental Health: Protect the mental health of your family, friends, and neighbors. Rather than telling someone not to worry, consider asking what they are doing for self-care. And stay in touch if you can, “because when we sit with our thoughts all by ourselves, they can spiral.”
• Sidewalk Art: Spread cheer and positive messages in your neighborhood by creating sidewalk chalk art.
• JF&CS Food Pantry is looking for donations. You can bring donations Tuesdays & Thursdays from 11 AM to 2 PM, Please click HERE for a list of needed items. Please bring to the Chamblee Dunwoody location at 4549 Chamblee Dunwoody RD. You can also visit their website at www.jfcsatl.org.
• Tzedakah Box: Make a tzedakah box – a charity box – and place it in at a convenient place near the door. Whenever you come home, put the coins left in your pocket or purse in the tzedakah box. When the box is full, bring it to the specified charity. If you have one that isn’t yet decorated, decorate it
• Paint rocks with words of encouragement/happy pictures to place throughout your community.
• Write letters to people at the Stewart Detention Center….One of the largest immigration detention centers in the US. El Refugio is an organization collecting hand written cards or notes of encouragement sent to immigrants detained at Steward Detention center. Many of these people face uncertainty not knowing if they will be free and reunited with their loved ones. Suspension of social visits can make this even more challenging. By sending a message of solidarity and hope to immigrants we can help ease their isolation. Please put cards and letters (unsealed) into a large envelope. Mail the large envelope to: El Refugio Ministry “Message of Hope and Solidarity” PO Box 3996 Decatur, GA30031.
