Our Facility
A COMPELLING AND SACRED SPACE WITH EXTRAORDINARY FACILITIES
Offering both a beautiful and meaningful space for prayer, Temple Beth Tikvah’s sanctuary’s unique design offers architectural representations of Jewish heritage. The social hall, classrooms, and outdoor spaces additionally provide comfortable places to learn, pray, celebrate, and gather together.
SANCTUARY
The ten columns within the sanctuary represent the ten stages of the manifestation of G-d prior to creation (the sefirot,) described in Jewish mystical texts. Twelve recessed windows on the upper sanctuary walls represent the 12 tribes of Israel. The domed ceiling was designed by architect Martin Greenberg with special lighting, “so that the actual surface of the dome cannot readily be seen. Only a glowing light is visible, symbolizing our concepts of an infinite, indefinable G-d who is beyond human description and understanding.”
As the center of the sanctuary sites the Ark, housing an impressive collection of Torah scrolls, readily visible by all congregants when the curtains are open. Taking the four steps down to bring the Torah to the congregation symbolizes the journey to deliver Torah from on high to the people for acceptance.
SOCIAL HALL
A perfect setting for any type of simcha, the social hall can accommodate weddings, Bar or Bat Mitzvah celebrations, anniversary parties, baby namings, and more. It includes a large dance floor and easily-accessible stage for a band or disc jockey. A fully-equipped Kosher kitchen adjoins the social hall while just outside the building is the picturesque Alterman Chapel. The chapel has served as a backdrop to many special occasions including being utilized as a chuppah (wedding canopy) during wedding ceremonies.
