Cantor Nancy Kassel
Cantor Nancy Kassel joined Temple Beth Tikvah in 1997. She earned her Bachelor of Music degree from Georgia State University and her Master’s degree from Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion: School of Sacred Music. She received an Honorary Doctorate of Music from HUC-JIR-DFSSM in 2016. Before coming to Temple Beth Tikvah she served as cantor for Temple Sinai in Oakland, CA. Cantor Kassel is featured on “A Solo Collection: Music of Stephen Richards," published by Transcontinental Music Publications, and contributed to “Divrei Shir, Words of Song: A Curriculum for the Study of Synagogue Music,” a joint publication of the American Conference of Cantors (A.C.C.) and the Union of Reform Judaism. She was a member of the Editorial Committee for newly composed music for "Shirei Mishkan HaNefesh" to complement the Machzor "Mishkan HaNefesh" and served on the URJ Worship, Music and Religious Living committee. She currently serves as chair of the JCPC (Joint Cantorial Placement Committee) for the A.C.C. which extends to her an ex-officio seat on the board of the A.C.C. Cantor Kassel has performed extensively in cantorial concerts with her colleagues around the country, as well as in Israel, Australia, Italy, Poland, Prague, and Argentina.
At Temple Beth Tikvah, Cantor Kassel works closely with Rabbi Shuval-Weiner in all areas of synagogue life, co-officiating worship services and many life cycle events observed and celebrated by members of the congregation. She is an integral part of the Religious School and Adult Learning and oversees the ‘B’ Mitzvah tutoring and volunteer choirs. In recent years Cantor Kassel has been more involved in Interfaith initiatives, and regularly speaks at Rotary Club gatherings.
A Georgia native (born in Savannah and raised in Atlanta), Cantor Kassel is grateful to live and work near family.
