The soundtrack of Martin’s childhood featured the music of Pete Seeger, The Weavers, The Kingston Trio, Joan Baez, Judy Collins, Peter, Paul, & Mary, and Simon and Garfunkel.

Influenced by the music of Debbie Friedman and Cantor Jeff Klepper, he was a camp songleader for many years before entering cantorial school.

Cantor Levson has been involved in community theater since childhood. In recent years he has appeared in productions of Children of Eden, Fiddler on the Roof, Sweeney Todd, The Music Man, and Oliver! and most recently portrayed Friar Lawrence in a production of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.

Cantor Martin Levson passionately believes that 21st century American Judaism must fully engage the body, heart, mind, and soul, in times of happiness and times of sorrow, and at all times between these extremes. He has taken the words from two Psalms as his personal mottos. From Psalm 23, “Gam Ki Eylech… -- Yea, though I walk…” and from Psalm 100, “Ivdu et Hashem B’simcha – Serve the Holy One with JOY!”
