Temple Beth Tikvah Committees

Temple Beth Tikvah is proud of its many volunteer committees and the essential role they play in the leadership of our congregation. All congregants are encouraged to contribute to our ever-growing community by sharing their skills, talents and interests as a committee volunteer. Here is a sampling of some of the most active committees.

Committee Descriptions

Adult Education Committee

The Adult Education Committee promotes educational activities and programs for the Congregation and community, in order to increase the knowledge of our Jewish heritage.

Budget and Finance Committee

The Budget and Finance Committee prepares the annual operating budget for the Congregation, monitors revenues and expenditures and make recommendations to the Board of Trustees regarding financial matters. The Budget and Finance Committee is also responsible for establishing appropriate financial policies and procedures.

Kehillat Chesed

The Kehillat Chesed Committee is involved in a variety of outreach efforts to support congregants during good times and bad, including:

  • Preparing shiva meals and providing other assistance to families grieving the loss of a loved one
  • Visiting congregants who are ill or are in the hospital
  • Assisting with transportation to doctors appointments and other health-related sessions
  • Recognizing births, adoptions, marriages and other simchas

The committee also advises the Rabbi and Board of Trustees on matters of communication with the membership and community.

Constitution and By-Laws Committee

The Constitution and By-Laws Committee develops and formulates the Constitution and By-Laws for the Congregation. The committee also recommends amendments to the Constitution and By-Laws.

Dues Committee

The Dues Committee considers member’s requests for adjustments to dues and assessments. This Committee makes adjustments, as it deems necessary. All work and proceedings of this Committee shall be confidential.

House Committee

The House Committee is responsible to oversee the maintenance of the building and property used by the Congregation and to assure that the facilities are in good order and repair. The committee obtains facilities required by the Congregation and is responsible for the arrangement of facilities in support of all synagogue functions.

Human Resources Committee

The Human Resources Committee establishes uniform personnel practices, which insure that matters of recruiting, interviewing, training, performance evaluation, dismissal, salary negotiations and other practices are conducted in a consistent and professional manner. The Human Resources Committee works with the appropriate committee or person overseeing a specific position and provides advice concerning personnel practices. This Committee also advises the Board of Trustees on all matters of personnel practices.

Judicial Committee

The Judicial Committee receives and considers petitions of grievances from the Congregation with regard: (1) conduct of officers, trustees and all other positions; (2) committees; and (3) interpretation of the Constitution and By-Laws. The Judicial Committee shall determine whether there is reasonable cause to believe a grievance is well founded and merits further consideration. The Judicial Committee is to investigate the grievance and report its findings and recommendations to the Board of Trustees who makes the final determination as to any grievance. The Judicial Committee consists of five (5) members with no member being an officer or member of the Board of Trustees.

Membership Committee

The Membership Committee promotes activities to increase and retain the membership of the Congregation.

Nominating Committee

The Nominating Committee is charged to identify and recommend candidates for elected office. The membership of the Nominating committee shall be composed of the Chairpersons from the Ritual, Board of Education; and Membership Committees, one officer and one Trustee appointed by the Board who are not standing for re-election, and two (2) congregants in good standing appointed by the Board. The Nominating Committee maintains an accurate system for identifying interests and skills of members for the purpose of staffing committees and other synagogue functions and provides this information to committee chairpersons for determining committee membership. The Nominating Committee presents recommendations for chairpersons of the Board of Education, Ritual and House Committees to the Board and the Rabbi annually for their approval. The Nominating Committee also annually presents recommendations for committee chairpersons to the Board for its approval.

Ritual Committee

The Ritual Committee with the cooperation and approval of our Rabbi considers the rituals and observances of the synagogue and promotes such practices in the home to enhance the values of Jewish living.

Social Action Committee

The purpose of the Social Action Committee is to provide Temple Beth Tikvah members with opportunities to carry out the mitzvah of tikkun olam, repair the world. The goal is to dedicate ourselves anew to our legacy of social justice through actions that will make the world a better place.

Youth Committee

We believe that Jewish communal life shouldn’t end when children are picked up in the carpool line following religious school. That’s why Temple Beth Tikvah has three youth groups:

    • Grades K – 5th
    • Grades 6th – 8th
    • Grades 9th – 12th

Each group enjoys a wide variety of age-appropriate activities, some Jewish in nature, some secular in nature. All are fun and serve to bring our children together as Jews.
