Artist in Residence - Danny Maseng

Born in Israel to American parents, Danny first came to the United States to star on Broadway in 'Only Fools Are Sad.' A playwright, actor, singer, writer and composer, Danny has served as Evaluator of New American Plays/Opera-Musical Theater for the National Endowment For The Arts. Danny is very proud to be the Chazzan and Music Director of Temple Israel of Hollywood.

A leader in the field of Jewish education, Danny has been Director of Hava Nashira for the URJ, the Artisitic Director of the Brandeis-Bardin Institute and the Director of The Spielberg Fellowships for the FJC . He is also the Patron Artist of the Avraham Geiger School for Cantorial Arts in Berlin, the first post-Holocaust Cantorial school in Germany.

Danny's critically acclaimed off-Broadway musical 'Wasting Time with Harry Davidowitz' The Musical Journey of a Jewish Soul and the dynamic 'Soul on Fire' concert, are two exciting productions that have earned Danny accolades. A book about the luminaries of Israeli music is in the works, and Danny has recently completed his first novel 'Singularities.'

One of the most popular and respected composers of contemporary Liturgical and Synagogue music, Danny has released a treasure trove of beautiful music . He has been the invited guest of the American Conference of Cantors, the Cantor's Assembly, as well as the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra. Equally at home with pop and rock, Danny's CD 'Just Like Home' has been hailed "a love letter to a place and a faith called Israel" by Rolling Stone's contributing editor David Wild and his long awaited double CD, 'Heaven on Earth:Shabbat at Temple Israel of Hollywood ' is hot off the press and getting rave reviews!

You may have seen Danny on show's like 'Law & Order' or heard him narrate' Wild Discovery' but his true love is teaching. He is a frequent faculty member of national and international institutes and conferences -- and deeply involved in interfaith dialogue. A much sought after Scholar/Artist-in-Residence, Danny travels the world, inspiring, teaching and rekindling the love of Judaism through Torah, Kabbalah, Jewish Culture and the Arts.
